Manure is organic matter, mostly derived from animal feces except in the case of green manure, which can be used as organic fertilizer in agriculture. Manures contribute to the fertility of the soil by adding organic matter and nutrients, such as nitrogen, that are trapped by bacteria in the soil. Higher organisms then feed on the fungi and bacteria in a chain of life that comprises the soil food web. It is also a product obtained after decomposition of organic matter like cow dung which replenishes the soil with essential elements and add humus to the soil.
In the past, the term “manure” included inorganic fertilizers, but this usage is now very rare.
There are three main classes of manures used in soil management:
Most animal manure consist of feces. Common forms of animal manure include farmyard manure (FYM) or farm slurry (liquid manure). FYM also contains plant material (often straw), which has been used as bedding for animals and has absorbed the feces and urine. Agricultural manure in liquid form, known as slurry, is produced by more intensive livestock rearing systems where concrete or slats are used, instead of straw bedding. Manure from different animals has different qualities and requires different application rates when used as fertilizer. For example horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, and guano from seabirds and bats all have different properties. For instance, sheep manure is high in nitrogen and potash, while pig manure is relatively low in both. Horses mainly eat grass and a few weeds so horse manure can contain grass and weed seeds, as horses do not digest seeds the way that cattle do. Chicken litter, coming from a bird, is very concentrated in nitrogen and phosphate and is prized for both properties.
Feces (US) or faeces (UK), also known by many other names, is a solid waste product from an animal digestive tract, discharged through the anus or cloaca during a process called defecation. Urine and feces together are called excreta.
Collected feces has various uses, namely as fertilizer or soil conditioner in agriculture, as a fuel source, or for medicinal purposes (fecal transplants or fecal bacteriotherapy, in the case of human feces).
After an animal has digested eaten material, the remains of that material are discharged from its body as waste. Although it is lower in energy than the food from which it is derived, feces may retain a large amount of energy, often 50% of that of the original food. This means that of all food eaten, a significant amount of energy remains for the decomposers of ecosystems. Many organisms feed on feces, from bacteria to fungi to insects such as dung beetles, who can sense odors from long distances. Some may specialize in feces, while others may eat other foods as well. Feces serve not only as a basic food, but also as a supplement to the usual diet of some animals. This is known as coprophagia, and occurs in various animal species such as young elephants eating the feces of their mothers in order to gain essential gut flora, or by other animals such as dogs, rabbits, and monkeys.
A high-tech dairy farm is among the first in Bosnia turning biogas from animal feces and silage into electricity, as it aims to become self-reliant at a time when high energy prices pose a risk to the subsidy-dependent agricultural sector. #Environment #Energy #Livestock #Cows #Electricity #News #Reuters #newsfeed Subscribe: http://smarturl.it/reuterssubscribe Reuters brings you the latest business, finance and breaking news video from around the globe. As Idaho dairies have grown, so has the environmental problem of coping with all the fecal waste. Much of it is spread over fields, where it can seep into local aquifers that supply people's wells. A zoo in the UK has come up with a scheme to generate renewable energy, using animal dung. The faeces of its caged residents are turned into fuel using biomass technology, thus making the zoo the first facility in the UK to contribute to the circular economy in this way. The Doody Family has been milking cows for five generations at Tulip Pond Farm in Union Bridge, Maryland. When there’s a lot of cows, there’s also a lot of...manure. But the Doodys work hard to properly manage this, using manure as a fertilizer for crops and keeping it out of nearby waterways. Through smart management and hard work, the Doodys continue to milk cows, taking on the many challenges that dairy farms face. MFH 701.

This video from Rutgers University highlights some of the options that are most readily available for smaller operations and covers siting, stockpiling, and manure use/utilization options.
City parks confronted with dog waste hope to turn the nuisance into a usable source of biogas. With the help of microorganisms, methane gas can be derived from dog poop in a process called anaerobic digestion. Dog owners must use biodegradable bags when they collect their pets' waste. The waste is placed in a the digestion tank. Turning the hand crank helps to drive the anaerobic digestion process. This produces methane gas, which can be used as an energy source for lighting or cooking. Source: Daily Mail

Untreated sewage leads to poor sanitation and disease around the world. Its effects are felt strongly in India, and Bangalore resident Tharun Kumar turned to cows for a solution. Click here to subscribe to our channel 👉🏽 https://bbc.in/3VyyriM With help from the Biomimicry Institute, he has designed and built 50 sustainable sewage plants that work in a similar way to a cow’s stomach. The system has no moving parts, so doesn't require any power or people to operate it. Why do all my friends now want to be your lovers?
Your family got bigger when they thought you were rich
And now like maniacs they scratch your back
Even when it doesn't itch
I want to figure it all, I want to figure it all out
I want to save you from
Save you from all the pain
Save you from the things that cause us pain
'Cause it's an animal city
It's a cannibal world
So be obedient, don't argue
Some are ready to fight you
It's an animal city
It's a cannibal world
So be obedient, don't argue
Some are ready to fight you, my love
They believe you now have everything you wanted
And once you have become a star, you got no right to bitch
But someday when you fail, they'll put you on sale
And buy you by the inch
But you're the real deal and Real is your middle name
You know sometimes I feel
I gotta earn every breath you take
Baby, never mind the rules we break
'Cause it's an animal city
It's a cannibal world
So be obedient, don't argue
Some are ready to bite you
It's an animal city
It's a cannibal world
So be obedient, don't argue
Some are ready to rip you right off
With you I feel safe, there's nothing to fear from us
Away from the fangs, the fangs of the world
I may be a coward but you are brave
And nothing seems so dangerous
'Cause it's an animal city
It's a cannibal world
So be obedient, don't argue
Some are ready to bite you
It's an animal city
It's a cannibal world
So be obedient, don't argue
Some are ready to rip you right off
Cannibal world
Cannibal world
Cannibal world
Cannibal world
So be obedient, don't argue
Some are ready to bite you
My love
